Match Report
This was the last of our evening series of still water matches and Cart Pond proved a fitting venue for the finale. We were all surprised when a few seconds after the whistle we heard the splosh of a feeder hitting the water from Keith’s swim, Keith fishing the feeder – surely not, but it was true although it only lasted and hour and a half or so, by which time he was threatening to throw his feeder rod into the bushes having missed a lot of good bites. A change to the pole and fishing an inside line for the last hour produced a run of good sized carp which added to the few bits and pieces he did get on the feeder gave a match total of 19lb 4oz which was enough to secure first place.
Vince was on peg 27 and fishing round the lilies and in the margins put together a total of 16lb 5oz for second place.
There were some expensive breaking carbon sounds from Mick Greenway’s peg as he twice broke a section on his pole tussling with Bream by the island. Discarding the shattered remains he then picked up his margin pole – a much tougher proposition and fished down the inside and had a late run of fish for a 14lb 4oz total and third place.
Keith’s win on the day was sufficient for him just to pip Mick Greenway in the overall still water evening trophy by 47 points to 46 and very tight on their tails was young Cody Hughes a point further back on 45 points
